The important and core functions of the STARS Management Committee, like a governing body, are to
The STARS Management Committee has met regularly with three meetings each term this academic year and fulfilled its regular duties of overseeing many aspects of the service including pupil progress and attendance, staffing, finance, the quality of provision for all pupils, ensuring high standards of safeguarding and approving development of the premises and facilities at Drapers Centre and projects in the schoolroom at Royal Marsden Hospital Oak Centre.
In addition this year, in March 2018, the STARS Management Committee were involved in the very positive Ofsted inspection of STARS when inspectors met with members of the Management Committee including the Chair and held telephone conversations with two other members.
Ofsted inspectors noted:
“Governors know the school well, are experienced and have a high degree of expertise. They visit regularly and have an accurate view of the school’s strengths and how it can improve. Governors are highly effective in the support and challenge that they provide for leaders.”
A newly appointed member welcomed to the Management Committee during this year is Sandra Raife. We thank Jo Sullivan-Lyons and Laura Noulton who have stepped back due to work commitments but who remain associate members for all their hard work and continued support for STARS.
STARS Management Committee were involved in the most recent Ofsted inspection of STARS, in September, when inspectors met with members of the Management Committee including the Chair and held telephone conversations with one other member.
Ofsted inspectors reported that:
"Members of the management committee have considerable educational expertise and use these skills very effectively to steer the school’s improvement journey."
