Jack Petchy Awards
Since 2009 STARS has been part of the Jack Petchey Achievement Awards Scheme, a reward and recognition initiative which enables schools and youth organisations to celebrate the achievements of their young people, as well as receive additional funding.
The initiative was set up by Jack Petchey in 1999 to recognise the achievements of young people "to enable young people aged 11 - 25 years to achieve their potential by inspiring, investing in, developing and promoting activities that increase their personal, social, emotional and physical development."
STARS is part of the Bronze award. Each term all staff and pupils are invited to vote for who they think deserves to win the award, stating why they have chosen that person. Example of achievements are:
- Helping others over and above expectations
- Being a good role model/mentor
- Showing bravery
- Overcoming a personal challenge
- Volunteering
- Trying really hard
- Breaking through a personal barrier
The winner receives an outstanding award certificate, a £250 cheque to spend on something for STARS, and a chance to attend the annual award ceremony where they receive a medallion for their achievement.
Past winners have spent their award money on a football table; a Nintendo Wii; Wii accessories; a group meal to Harvester, a trip out to Thorpe Park and gifts for our year 11 leavers.
In addition there is an annual leader award recognising the valued contribution of a member of staff.
