Careers Education
Careers Education Information Advice and Guidance (CEIAG) is an important aspect of the pupil learning experience at STARS. The aim is to help prepare pupils to make positive decisions about their future in the world of work and education. CEIAG at STARS is delivered through monthly careers sessions, the KS3/4 PSHE curriculum, assemblies and work related activities with external partners (parents, local colleges, training providers and youth programmes).
STARS' Careers leader is: Rita Thompson 0208 404 3124 or email: tuition@starservice.org.uk.
All year 11s will have access to a Level 6 Careers Advisor during the year in order to ensure that pupils are fully informed about options and opportunities available to them when they leave our service. We ensure that pupils are fully informed about options and opportunities available to them when they leave our service. All pupils in year 11 experience a careers interview, to ensure that pathways are explored and are appropriate to the needs of the individuals. The initial interview takes place early on in the academic year and continuous support is provided at meetings throughout the year. The aim of the meetings is to support year 11 pupils with research and applications for their chosen post-16 destinations. Parents are also included in this process via Academic Review afternoons, parent information letters and invitations to career related events.

During years 10 and 11 pupils learn about further education and work opportunities that are available to them in the future during lessons and designated time with the Education Project Worker and Careers Advisor. |
To assist with creating a positive transition on from STARS, all pupils are invited to an onsite careers fair that allows them and parents/carers to explore what further opportunities the various local establishments have on offer. The careers programme also includes local college visits, sessions with an apprenticeship support programme, and a keystage 4 transition programme that takes place at NESCOT College.
During KS4, where possible, pupils are encouraged to participate in a work experience placement of their choice which is usually within an area of interest that the pupil may want to explore further.
All year 11 pupils and their parents are encouraged to attend local career events and college/sixth form open evenings to allow as much information to be gained as possible. For those individuals that need support from home, we are able to offer home visits to ensure that all pupils have equal access to careers support. The majority of our pupils successfully move on to college, apprenticeships, training or employment and we work closely with the borough’s NEET (Not in Education Employment or Training) support team throughout the year to offer any further support to individuals needing any additional help with their post-16 place.
