Happiness depends upon ourselves.
Welcome to Sutton Tuition and Reintegration Service (STARS)
STARS is a medical pupil referral unit for children and young people, 5-16yrs, with complex medical needs, who reside in the London Borough of Sutton. We provide education for pupils who are unable to attend their mainstream school, reintegrating pupils as soon as they are well enough.
The service is based at the Drapers centre, where we provide 25 hours education for pupils referred in KS3 and 4. We are open from 8.30 am to 4.00 pm. The service also operates over a number of sites in Sutton. We also have a schoolroom at the Royal Marsden Hospital and provide bedside teaching at Queen Mary's Hospital for Children.
The school day at the Drapers centre:
9:10 am - 9:15 am: Pupils arrive and register
9:15 am - 3:00 pm: Timetabled lessons including lunch break at 12:30 pm - 1:00 pm

Safeguarding Statement
Sutton Tuition and Reintegration Service takes all aspects of safeguarding and child protection seriously. The health, safety and well-being of every child is our top priority. We expect all staff, members of our Management Committee and volunteers to share this commitment and be fully aware of their responsibilities.
We have robust recruitment and child protection policies in place as well as behaviour policies and a staff Code of Conduct. STARS’ recruitment policy includes all checks on staff and regular volunteers’ suitability in accordance with current legislation.
Our safeguarding team all have regular external training to allow them to do their job with skill, knowledge and confidence. All staff working in the school have safeguarding training annually. This covers general safeguarding requirements with a deeper focus on a topic that is relevant at the time. This gives all the staff the confidence they need to notice potential problems and raise any concerns in a timely and appropriate way. We audit our compliance annually with support from the Local Authority.
- Our safeguarding policy ensures that all members of the school community:
- Are aware of their responsibilities in relation to safeguarding and child protection.
- Know the procedures that should be followed if they have a cause for concern.
- Know where to go to find additional information regarding safeguarding.
- Are aware of the key indicators relating to child abuse.
- Fully support the School's commitment to safeguarding and child protection.
We listen to any concerns or worries our pupils have and act accordingly to support them and make sure they are well cared for. Our links to outside agencies and our safeguarding team’s commitment to our pupil’s welfare provides the extra layer of protection some children require.
STARS has five members of staff on the Designated Safeguarding team. Details are below.
