Action is the foundational key to all success.
The Curriculum
Our aim is for every child to be healthy, socially and emotionally secure, accessing a high quality education. When pupils are referred to the service, they are often in crisis, so we work closely with multi-agencies in order to ensure pupils are able to re-engage with education.
We are ambitious for our pupils and aim to:
- Provide a high quality education, through a broad, balanced and relevant curriculum, designed to mirror that offered by mainstream schools.
Enhance social confidence and emotional well-being. - Prepare our pupils for reintegration into mainstream provision.
There are two strands to STARS provision:
- Medical alternative provision provider
- Hospital education
Medical alternative provision provider
KS1 and 2: Our focus is to work in partnership with the referring school to agree a package where, either lessons are planned by the pupil’s teacher, or we will facilitate an on line learning package. We will then support reintegration as soon as the pupil’s health will allow.
KS3 and KS4: Our focus is on providing a supportive and therapeutic environment so that pupils can thrive and engage in the delivery of an age appropriate curriculum. We prepare pupils for reintegration back to mainstream, or special school, as soon as their health will allow. Each subject has its own bespoke curriculum following the national curriculum. We have subject specialist curriculum leaders in all core subjects and most non-core subjects.
KS4: If re-integration back to school is not possible then attention is given to supporting pupils through examination courses and progression into further education, training and employment.
To realise the above the curriculum offered is as broad and as flexible as possible to allow pupils with a variety of health issues to access as much as they are able. We have high expectations and aim that all pupils will be able to access a full timetable at the Drapers Centre or in school, as soon as they are well enough. In doing this the service recognises that access to education maybe delivered from a variety of sources including: 1:1 tuition; alternative providers as well as online packages.
Please refer to the subject icons to find out more about the subjects offered including the curriculum offer through Hospital education.
